TDR2000 Skins!

Post by helomyname »

I made a few TDR2000 skins today, so i thought i'd share them. They're all based on other carmageddon games to bring a sense of familiarity in the universe of the forgotten carma game.

Tashita! This is a skin for the McKilem (which is a stupid name). I think it turned out pretty good!

Eagle! The front of it is based off of the Mk1, and the back is similar to the one from Reincarnation.

Blood Riviera! This is actually a skin I made 3 years ago, with some minor improvements. Skin for the SuperCharger

Monster Beatle! Herb 'E' dropped the massive wheels after what went down in Carpocalypse Now hehe... skin for the Tomahawk

TDR2000 becomes more enjoyable when all around you are familiar faces hehe

I will most likely post a download when i have more skins done

These are great, keep it up!

If you need somewhere to host them then refer to this thread: http://www.carmageddon.com/forum/topic/27027

Just swing one of us a message and I'm sure we'll be up for hosting these skins.

Shall move this thread to the general modding section also :)

Post by helomyname »

Thanks Razor :)

The cars are getting harder and harder to work with, since they don't really resemble the originals as much anymore. Its still fun!

DC Codbra! This is a skin for Limey, mostly because I didn't like the green it had very much and the shape more or less resebled the cobra :p The front lights don't get any better than that.

LadyBug2! This is a skin for The Machine, its a big shame the industrial wheels can't be changed (like with the eagle :/). Over all it just looks like a bulkier C2 Ladybug! :D

Not bad at all, some skins do really work nicely with the TDR models.

For Stormbringer, you could also use the texture from the Gizmondo/iOS version:
https://rr2000.cwaboard.co.uk/gallery/displayimage.php?album=12&pid=6588#top_display_media

(this is the gizmondo texture, the iOS one is slightly better)

Also about these wheel textures you can't change: it's possible to override the default skin by extracting the TGA files from the pak container, modifying them and putting them in a subfolder named after your skin (IIRC name doesn't matter, the game will load anything in its hierarchy).

Ooh, thanks Tosh, i'll get on that! Do you know how to extract those? The Eagle's rims are hideous and I have a good texture for them

You use PakRat available with the TDR2000 SDK here: https://rr2000.cwaboard.co.uk/R4/PC/TDR2000SDK.exe

Just open up the vehicles in PakRat and you can then extract the textures.

Here is the HD Annihilator, using the Gizmondo skin!

Stodge Barger! Not the most HD skin in the universe but its pretty cute, for the Husky.

I tried changing the wheels on the Eagle, but before it can appear in the menu i get these two errors ;/ why is this and why did i break my game?

Thanks for the files farell, but even after replacing the .pak for some reason the game still crashes whenever the Eagle shows up in the game, so I have to avoid it as much as humanly possible right now :/ I will probably do a reinstall of the game later on

Either way, while i was avoiding the crashy car, i made a skin for the Viper. It's the Fraud Broko!

Oh well; it was worth a shot...

Nice Fraud Boko though!

You know what you just did?

I'm going to mess about in Gimp/Photoshop for a bit now! I'll make a new thread; I wouldn't want to steal the 'thunder'.

I did a reinstall and the game works fine now, it seems whenever i even make a backup of the .pak file, the game just stops working. I can't touch it at all, so I won't be changing the wheels unless someone enlightens me.

In the meantime, I made The Bimmer. It's not perfect because the model has stupid texture mapping, and the wheels dont match because I dont want to crash the game again :p it's a skin for the SXE Black Hatch or something

and good luck with your skins farell

Hey, Autoscum themed Spectre looks mighty fine there!

About the TGA problem, don't compress your file ;)

That other problem: doesn't look familiar, but are you sure it's linked to the Eagle?

Thanks Toshiba, and ueah im pretty sure thats the case since al errors appear when the Eagle tries to show itself :/

I will try not compressing the file! Does it have to be in the folder separately, or replaced in the .pak using pakrat?

IIRC you don't have to change the content of the .pak.

If you create a subfolder and put the tga files (with the very same filenames as the originals in the .pak), the game should load them instead of the .pak files.

Despite not compressing it in any way i still get the error

"tga_Parse: Unsupported tagra format!

RLE formats unsupported."

I don't understand what's happening here ;l

If you're using GIMP or something like that, then save the image, then open it in paint, place a random pixel and save it again. TDR2000 seems to have some kind of odd issue with transparency, even when not active

Thanks to going into files, The Bimmer now has correct wheels and driver!

Blood Riviera got a complete remake, turned out better than the previous one since I now have experience.

And in news, here is the Hick Pickup! From our favourite banjo, Banjo Strummy. It's a skin for the Green Hammer

I must write that down...

Thanks so much! Once I post it; could you look at the skin and tell me your thoughts?

Like I said though; I'll make my own thread.

Of course I'll check your thread out, farell.

I remade the Beatle, it now includes the driver, Herb E.

Thunderbucket now has Sinthea driving it!

I'm thinking about completely removing damage textures. It gives it a more Carmageddon 1 and 2 feel when all you see is the bends of the car, no texture effects. I'll also try and make some nosebleed pack car skins, which is gonna be hard.

Killer Coop! It even has Mike o'Kane driving it

C2 CopCar(ish). It's the Enforcer, with a texture in the style of the original C2 cop car.

Farmer Fright got himself a new Harvester, although this time it's the Soul Harvester.

Bonus: WTF is bald G-Man doing in this wall?

I'm getting closer to a release :D

I never thought the day would come where I was in a TDR themed thread handing out compliments, but hey Helomyname - you thoroughly deserve congratulations for your achievements. I can't say it would make me any more likely to install that game, but for those who still insist on playing it, the skins will at least make the hideous car models look as good as they possibly can... :)
