[C1] Sodburbs beta track

Post by JeReMiZ »

Hi all,

Some years ago, Toshiba-3 found 2 beta tracks (Desert3 and Sodburbs)inside Carmageddon files, and put them in one package.

The installation should be fairly easy, copy/paste everything into DATA folder and add suburb.txt to RACES.txt.

My problem is, Desert3 works, but the most interesting to me, Sodburbs, doesn't. What I'm doing wrong?

After clicking on "Accept" on the grid screen, the game simply crash with "Carma95.exe has stopped working" error.

Here is the code from my RACES.TXT:

SUBURB BETA TRACK

SCENE.FLI,CTY1MAP.FLI,INFOBACK.FLI

SUBURB.TXT

5 // Number of text chunks

5,3 // x,y offset of fimst line

5,99 // Frame start (incl), end (excl)

1 // Number of lines

LOCATION: SUBURBAN BETA LAND

5,24 // x,y oyfset of first line

15,99 // Frame start (incl), end (excl)

1 // Number of lines

PEDESTRIAN COUNT: ?

5,35 // x,y oyfset of first line

25,99 // Frame start (incl), end (excl)

1 // Number of lines

.

5,46 // x,y oyfset of first line

35,99 // Frame start (incl), end (excl)

1 // Number of lines

.

5,64 // x,y oyfset of first line

45,99 // Frame start (incl), end (excl)

1 // Number of lines

BETA TRACK
Maybe Toshiba-3 forgot a file to include in the package? I know the track is not very interesting, but I like to add or gather everything "official" or "beta" from carmageddon...

Here is the link for those who wants to look for theirselve:

Hey Jerem, sorry I probably forgot to include a file or something.

But again I wasn't too sure how I got that working anyway!:

Toshiba-3 wrote:For Sodburbs I used one of the snowy town text file as it was based on Sodburbs heh. At first I also thought it was missing a lot of textures (for the houses) but once ingame it all worked fine. I don't understand why actually (they didn't load in PT2).

Heh!

I'll have a look at that and update the file later on :)

Hey, you can download the file again, I updated it and it should be working fine now!

Actually it was missing HOUSING.PIX and HOUSING.MAT, beta files with the textures for the horrid houses there.

My custom build wasn't asking for them because... I had put them in my REG folder! On one of the C1 cd there's an additional folder named ARTREG filled with unused files. Back then I merged it with my main REG folder (which isn't a good idea as it fills up the texture slots) and as HOUSING.* were found in that ARTREG folder my C1 loaded it up from the REG folder and I hadn't to make it load from the track text file.

This explains why stuff couldn't be loaded in PT2 correctly but showed up in my game mysteriously :B

Thanks again for the update, I will try it later. I just inserted my carma cd, and there is the ARTREG folder in. Is it only unused files?
