Your Earliest Carmageddon Memory?

Post by Razor »

Now, this time i did a long search to see if a topic like this had been made before, and i dont find one anywhere.

Anyway, whats your earliest carmageddon memory?

Mine is when i have around 8 years old when my dad had brought Carmageddon 2 (when it was new) for about £45, he brought it home and installed it on his PC, I remember him being astonished with the violence and the graphics. :P

Well i remember myself playing it once (i think i was using the eagle or hawk) and i was on a beaver city track and i was face to face with Jenny, I remember slamming into her car and shouting "Die Jenny Taylia" and in reply to that my mother said to my dad "Did he just say what i think he did" and my dad answered "No, he said Jenny Taylia, it's a name of one of the characters in the game".

That is my earliest memory of C2 :P

Mines goes back as far as 1997 when i saw a small tiny piece of C1 on some show and i can't remember what about but i think they thought it was pretty violenced.

Anyway, in september the same year a friend of mine got a demo disc with C1 on it, we we're unable to play it as we both didn't had a pc (demo disc also included shadow warrior).

Januari 1998 i could finally go a merry-round in C1 demo  totally hooked to this day on..

T'was 1998. I remember walking into a GAME shop and seeing C1 for sale, I think it was about £10 at the time. Looking at the back cover, I remember thinking, I have buy this! Only problem was, I was only 12 years old at the time, and the 18's rating on it was a bit of a problem. I eventually got my father to buy it for me! Ah, the precious memories of installing it for the first time. Kept getting my car destroyed very quickly. What a noob I was back then!

Me too, 1997. A demo for Carma 1 came on a MacAddict CD. It had green blood zombies. First time I ran into one and it went SPLAT I was "Oh man, this is sick. I love it". After watching the AI opponents backing up and ramming me and chasing all over the place I thought "god, these things drive better than some people I've seen on the road"

I have too much vivid memorys of games, they pushout things im soposed to rember, the first time i played the orignal gta i have perfet memory of even what cars i used, but i cant rember the date . ..hmm.

Anyway!, twas the 90s when my dad still lived with us, he was on his downstairs pc playing a game when i said "Whats that?" he told me that it was a new game. and i stood and wathed a little. first bit of violane i saw was when he hit a fat buisnes man that splatterd, heh Later i was aloud on first leveli played was Hitch hiker harvest, the trak with the big loop the loop, first ped i hit was uhm.. a girin a short shirt? anyway, i loved the game. the violance and crashing, stupid things that the drivers would say, i was mostly on beahes of blood because i liked the tall windy roads on the clifs ^^

theres mine!, also around the same time i tryed a demo of GTA, strangly i never played the carmageddon demo until After id played the game.

I remember my sister was watching a place for a friend and there was a computer there. She was aloud to use it and sometimes when she would bring me over, she would let me play on it. C1 was on it. I remember the first time I played, I ran out of time near that gas station in the large parking lot. I figured out after what to do - kill those peds! After another round, I was hooked!

Unfortunately, the computer we had at the time wouldn't been able to run it.

I did eventually get a copy from a friend, but it would only work on certain computers.

I also remember only seeing TDR at stores. Didn't see C1 and defiantly not C2(I had to download it  )

Walking though a computer store in like 1997 and seeing it running. I loved the gritty look, and didn't even realize that you could hit people untill I spun out into a crowd and got points. I was amazed.

My memory is lame. It was in the early part of this decade (maybe 2002?) and someone posted screenshots of C2 on the MM forums. There was a '69 Charger that was FUBAR but the damage just look so amazing! I had to have this game. And that's it. I found it in the bargain bin for $5.

Man! That brings good old memories back.

I remeber seen C1 at a game show here in Brazil. The show guy said that "this game is rated 21" and "if your car is fast you got to race, but if your car is strong you got to destroy" that sounded amazing, especially the 21 part, besides I found out later that what he said was pretty lame, anyway, I also remeber that, about a month later that game show, the national tv journal said that Carmageddon, Duke Nukem and GTA were forbidden from Brazil, considering that this game (C1) would influence on young people's mind to commit car crashes and bloodsheeds on the streets.

First found out about it from a magazine preview in January 1997 ("Next Generation" I think?...it was still in the winter months, anyway.)

No one I knew at the time had anything beyond a 486..and I didn't have a computer that could run anything more demanding than Wolfenstein 3d until April or May 1999. And that computer could just BARELY even run that! (286..didn't even have a soundcard...even Doom shareware was way out of its league!? I hadn't even owned it for long before then, either!) So I didn't actually get to play C1 until then. A week or so later I got c2...I dicked around with c1 editing some, then was well into making c2 cars by July '99. Didn't have steady a internet connection until September though, and that's when I started uploading krappe.

Oh what a terrible waste.

It was in 1997, i was 25 (erm ... yeah, I'm an ooold man).

I searched on a magazine CD for good car games. in these times, I found the car games crappy.

I saw Carmageddon and tried it.

I remember that it looked ok for me, nice graphics (in 97) sound is ok.

So the race began, the speed feeling was good ... but wait ! what are those peds doing in the middle of the road ???!!!??? I tried to break but splattered 3 of them.

Then I saw "combo X3" on the screen ...

What ? combo ?

I've got to crush them all ?

ok ! let's go !

It automatically became my favorite game until now.
