Old School?

Post by Defect »

Does any of the old crew still post here? Matt, Animalz, Random, Ratty, Errol, Twig, Beast, Boose, Cage?

Didn't think so ;-)

Anyways, I guess the real reason for this post is purely one of boredom. Its been about a million years since I last posted, and I just installed TDR for a bit of a laugh, and got reminded of the old days!

Ah, good memories.

Anyway, Catcha later.

I bought C1 on its release date, same with the splat pack, same with C2, and of course, same with C3. I saw all the initial "we can actally MAKE our own cars for c2", and the 1st ever cared. The cameron cars kicked ass, specially billy-no-mates' ride. LOTS of custom astuff followed, and i had a small shot at my own stuff in cared, bit crappy though. Then i saw the windup to c3, the great anticlimax, the dying of many cool sites and the much slower updating of others. This is where i decided to get involved actively. I decided i'd start making the C2 content i craved (eg: my crappy bigfoot, and the "grinder") then i got a nice offer from LOD, and we're at present day. phew...

The best thing EVER was the C2 alpha demo. That thing KICKED ASS!

The best car ever was the Heavy Rampage Sport Monster Truck edition...yummyness

erm... yeah thats about it

Yayus-I got C1 right after it's release date and while I loved the gameplay-I couldn't frockin' stand the cars in it.

I remember wishing I could make my own (and that's when I started playing around switching models in C1-then my bro Andy (Z3 guy) at Weird & Gearley's passed a cop of C2 on to me it all came together for me regarding new stuff in both games.

I have been lurking around here since I bought Carma 1 new. I reged a couple years ago and hadda re-reg a couple times 'cause I got new comps from time to time.

When I first discovered this board, Crash 'n Burn was in full swing.

Hell, I'll prolly be making cars and stuff long after people are saying "WHAT-a-geddon?"

'cause to me-as far as games go-it doesn't get any better than Carmageddon.

I think I started lurking when the Carmageditor deal came out and I used it to make some nice skins for Carma1. Talking to other animals on a message board didn't interest me until around the crash of Carma City. It still brings a tear to me eye.

Interesting reading peoples carma-discovery stories.

I myself never really cared much about computer games ever, had a computer for years and never played any, cept doom maybe once or twice when i first got a computer and thought it was dumb. Then about 2 years ago I thought "theres gotta be a computer game where you get to smash cars out there" - only thing that interests me

So I browsed some gaming sites that posted car racing/simulation demos, the winner outta all the car games - the carmageddon demo! I played it all summer, restarting every time the 5 minute time limit ended. I eventually bought a copy off eBay and played that for less than a month.. in that time I went to some carmageddon pages, when i saw chrashoc I was like "hmm theres a carmageddon 2.. and 3?!" I looked at the c2 cars section and saw some slayer cars.. dodge aries, chevy chevette.. read that the cars had smashing glass and detachable parts.. saw a 'screen shot of the week' of the c2 bloodmixer crushing an orange muscle car to death, saw parts all hanging off it all nice like, and with the caption below "this thing is slow as fuck, but if it catches you.." Naturally i had to get this game.

And thats that *brushes hands together*.

Got TDR also like 6 months ago.. its ok to play when you get bored with c2, and after you play it, it makes you value c2 all the more. TDR is more like c1 in a way.. all the cars are barely smashable and there are those dumb looking riot armor "cop cars" driving around annoying the fuck outta you!

I remember the C1 demo too... if I recall, I barely could complete a lap in time, which ended to the rooftop fall, and the lap restarted. I usually aimed -less surprisingly- to waste the cars... there were some odd ways to waste some cars: Grimm, Kutter and Screwie could be pushed sideways for some time, then they got wasted! (only the wheels got damaged, and even then it was only about wasting rubber... ) Don Dumpster hardly got wasted without ramming his car's roof when the car was flipped over, sometimes ramming the rear helped too, as well as for Otis. It was quite fun to fiddle the textfiles to get yourself any of the demo cars, or a copcar.

One thing irritating me was the wait time before & after the play... and the screenshots that changed way too fast, I wanted to look them longer! When I saw the beach screenshot, I thought that in the full version, one could drive underwater from that beach very far away... that was way too optimistic.

Phew, now I at least got rid of my cursed "666" post count...

Hmm, for some reason I'm getting bored with Carma 2. Anyone know of any other ways to play it? Oh and is there a way to turn off pedestrians? They are really annoying and get in the way too often. Same with powerups, too. Can they be turned off? I'd like it to be as realistic as possible. Thanks.

I hereby advise you to start experimenting w/ the physics settings(general/cars...etc...) to make them more realistic.....you'll discover a whole new dimension!

You can remove powerups, but its not a great idea cause when you do so, as you remove all other accessories from the maps (trees, street posts, etc) you can edit the powerups .txt file though, this is what i do, I basically make em all last only 1 second if a powerup happens to be run over.

As for pedestrians, if you use the twt suite and unpack a race, you can edit the races .txt file where all the ped specs are within for that race, you can totally take them all out, or put smaller values this way there are only a few pedestrians on each street which is what I do. 0.5 for every material which spawns peds seems to be a good value.
