Hey Lutz G, by coincidence I just ordered one of these:

Alien Frame

As I love the look of it, and having done a lot of (partial scratch) RC car building in the past I was looking for a new hobby - I'm keen to get into aerial photography with a quadcopter. So I'm now researching all the ancillaries I'm going to need to bolt onto this baby to get airborne! So far I've ordered the frame, a set of Afro speed controllers and a set of "High crab FPV landing skids" (as the kit legs are apparently badly flimsy!).

Any advice would be welcome!

Okay, further purchases for my first quadcopter:

Alien 560

Turnigy 2213 980Kv x 4

Afro ESC 30amp x4

Slow Fly Electric Prop 12x4.5R SF

FrSky DJT 2.4Ghz Combo Pack for JR w/ Telemetry Module & V8FR-II RX

Naza Lite

Turnigy 9XR Transmitter Mode 2

Then when it all arrives I can work out all the stuff I still haven't got that I need to make it all fit together! :)

i thought you would have just like brought the unit as a whole and just put the propellers on the craft after taking it directly out of box.

I hope you got des-dructions for putting it all together :P

I have no idear what all that electrical stuff is unless i bother to look it up but i wish you luck nobby :)

Hey Nobby - great stuff! Did also RC car (and boat) building in the past (very Speed Racer/Carmageddon like *g*)

I'm more the DJI Phantom (1) guy - but the Alien Copter looks great.

Got now FPV:

Hey Lutz G - great videos, I look forward to making my own videos (and to that end I now own 3 gimbals; one 2-axis servo for D-SLR, one 3-axis for D-SLR and a Tarot 2-axis for goPro). I'm still looking at FPV options though.

Hopefully I'll be in the air this coming weekend. In the meantime I need to do all the electrical wiring for my first quad (which I decided will be the Alien, as the Predator is going to be more awkward to fit all the electrics to). And then... just learn to fly it too! :)

So, the buying frenzy continued! I'm now the proud (slightly ashamed?) owner of:

HobbyKing® Alien 560 Folding Quad-Copter Carbon Fibre

HobbyKing® Predator 650 Folding Quad-Copter Carbon Fibre Version

Afro ESC 30Amp Multi-rotor Motor Speed Controller

Slow Fly Electric Prop 12x4.5R SF (4 pc Right Hand Rotation)

Turnigy Multistar 2213-980Kv 14Pole Multi-Rotor

Turnigy 9XR Transmitter Mode 2

DJI Naza-M Lite Multi-Rotor Flight Controller GPS Combo

FrSky DJT 2.4Ghz Combo Pack for JR w/ Telemetry Module & V8FR-II RX

FrSky D4R-II 4ch 2.4Ghz ACCST Receiver (w/telemetry)

2.4Ghz 7DB Antenna for FrSky Modules (And compatible Radios/Modules)

ZIPPY Flightmax 4000mAh 3S1P 40C

HobbyKing® B6 AC/DC Compact LiPO/NiMh 50W Charger

1 x ST Products RC Camera Mount Kit S-550 2 axis

Multifunction Care-Free High Crab FPV Landing Gear Set (Black)

4 x 16mm 3k Carbon Fiber Tube (16mm C/F Tube)

1x Hobby King Quadcopter Power Distribution Board

3 Axis Brushless Gimbal for Sony NEX Size camera (UnmannedTech)

4x Turnigy D3536/9 910KV Brushless Outrunner Motor

1x Turnigy HD ActionCam 1080p Full HD Video Camera w/waterproof case

1x Tarot T-2D V2 GoPRO 3 Brushless Camera Gimbal and ZYX22 Controller

Still finding no sensible prop options for the motors - UK buying options for props seem a bit crap. I want sets of four matching RH/LH rotation props to match my motors - can anyone recommend where best to get them? I'm happy to buy from China if the suppliers are reputable and can ship in sensible time-frames.

The Alien and Predator frames are now both built. I can highly recommend the Predator to fans of ill-thought out kits with hard-to-read and inaccurate instructions and screws made of hardened cheese. However, the resultant frame - after hours of swearing, some discarding of unnecessary fripperies, and some Dremel work to access screw holes rendered inaccessible by construction - is very light and stiff... and I do really like the motor/ESC mounts.

The Alien was much easier to screw together, and I've added HobbyKing's skids to it rather than the fragile stock legs, to make it better as a camera platform.

I was in the war.

Lutz G, Do you know if you can manually put those routs in to the quad ? ie instead of just having a circle or a triangle you can make it say zig zag in between buildings ?.

I can really see that this is going to be a dangerous object to behold if its quite enough to sneak about.

The only thing i hate would be if they make it a license based flight object, Which i hear government is considering doing.

Great video, I could no understand the German science show but i like the watch even though its more of a iphone stupid take off with windows based mechanisms.

More distance training for you, that first video of that hill side if you could make it skim just above those plants and go down the valley a ways then come back that would be a video....

Anyways great work.
