Time for a new c2 video contest(!)(?)

Post by autopilot »

With some recent video posts I thought maybe its time for a little creative "competition" since we haven't done that in a long time and I feel Its time to "defend my title". Instead of the familiar proceedings I thought a "top 5" would be a little more interesting concept.

1. Top 5 Crashes (Does not need to result in a "waste").

2. Top 5 Pedestrian kills.

3. Top 5 Stunts and/or "strange happenings".

Since these would likely be short in time I imagine they could be merged all into one package to keep things simple, and you can do so in whatever creative fashion you would like to edit everything together. And finally, youtube could be used for hosting as thats simple enough.

If everyone is up for it and there is enough interest I figure It will open on the 25th, and results shall be uploaded by august 25th. Thats a whole month to get your recording going and pick through the best of the best. And I guess voting through a poll in a thread on this site could go from the 26th to the 31st.

Excellent idea! Wish I thought of it...

So maybe keep 'em around or under 3 minutes?

C2S's stuff will be a good standard to try and beat

I can't

If I try to record with fraps in C2 it rapes my video card drivers, no idea why...did it with my old ATI as well. It'll just give me a BSOD

Yea you aren't alone, it's a glitch in C2 that gives you the pink screen when you record with glide. What really sucks is my C2 crashes when I use glide more than d3d, and I missed out on a LOT of good crash scenes because of C2 getting the pink screen while recording on glide :supercrazy:

Firstly HURRAY!!!!!!! I'm finaly a member of these forums!!!

Secondly, I too can only run Carmageddon II through glide wrapper meaning all my screan shots and recorded videos are all pink.

But what about an external video recording program that could be running in the background and records what you see? Does anyone know of anything like that?

I know you can get audio programs like this, infact even MS sound recorder allows you to record what sounds your computer is making.

Where can I download Fraps from?

Oh and, I do have a bunch of screan shots that I taken with "printscrean", untill I can get this Fraps thingy for recording movies, I'll submit one of them - I'm quite proud of my screanshot of Pitbull split in 2 (that's his Bigdump vehicle) and just while I was taking the screan shot, Mother Trucker drove into one of Pitbull's halfs and wasted her self.

Heh, sorry

Well I've gotton FRAPS now and soon hope to get some good Movies with it.

Untill then, here's 2 screenshots.

Pitbull and Krappe have been split in 2 and just as I took the shot, Mother Trucker drove into 1 of Pitbull's halfs. This would have been good in a movie as all this happend very quickly.

http://www.myfilestash.com/userfiles/Ch ... c%2015.JPG

P.S: Guess how I split Krappe (the green bus) and Pitbull in half - a clue is in the picture..

And this one happend yesterday.

I was being chased by Val hellna (or Hellner?) and I hit a tree, but these trees are easy to knock down, yet they're (In the words of Ada Nuff) "forking" hevey!! As it fell, it hit Val and did some serious damage. Sadly it wasn't enough to waste her.

I was going to join in but all my FRAPS videos were more then 250MB. some were nearly 400MB.

I guess I should of taken down the amount of frames per second?

Well I think I only had 1 amazing movie and that was a ped kill.

It was on the Carma 1 map of "Beef curtains", well not that exact one but it was the same map, anyway, as I was approaching the loop-the-loop part of that level, I started recording just so I had proof that I could do it but when I was watching the reply I noticed that I had hit a ped at the base of the loop-the-loop and it got stuck on the front of my car all the way through the loop-the-loop so not only did I got through that but so did that ped

Uncompressed videos are roughly 5-6 MB / second at 640x480 resolution, 20-25 MB / second at 1280x960. After a typical compression, they are usually reduced to 0.2 MB / second at 640x480, or roughly 1 MB / second at 1280x960.

A video clip lasting 10 seconds, resolution 640x480:

- Uncompressed = 60 MB

- Compressed = 2-3 MB

In capturing video, all your originals are going to be insanely huge. Perhaps a good (free) video editor suggestion is in order.....

Fraps and Carmageddon's in game capture are uncompressed, so you are going to have to find a good editor and are a nessecity...

Windows Movie Maker (Blah) is capable of making WMV files. I dont know what Youtube requires. If it is AVI then I would need another suggestion.

YouTube will take .wmv, the few I've uploaded were and unless you're a video editing whizz, MovieMaker is sufficient for most people. If all you're looking to do is overlay titles add a soundtrack and do some transitions between clips, I don't think Avid video is neccessary to make smash and crash vids for YouTube

Ok so how ccan i do to record anything from C2? D3D don't run anymore, or simply crash when i try to start new game.

FRAPS or VD recorder do not work with glide mode.

I have got the demo of VD recorder, maybe the full version will work? BUt i don't feel like spending 30 dollars just to see if i something works or not.

So...

FRAPS works for me in glide...but the file sizes are massive in memory.

One of my 16 second clips is over 335MB.

The biggest I've recorded is 30 seconds (max limit for demo version of FRAPS) which is 732MB

I need to find a way to compress them.

I always record with sound off (useless if you gonna add music and mostly isn't correctly synced, old game you know~~) lowest frames per second (25 fps) and half-size, no cursor and no sync.

Fraps should record when you are in glide if you use a glidewrapper (like zeckenzack's~~).

I use windows movie maker to compress them to wmv video's (check my video page on my site below!).

I will try newer version of glidewrapper. So how do you take out the play, forward and backward hud when you are in replay mode?

Also what are your glidewrapper settings?

Hi everyone

if you want to record compressed videos check out the ZD Soft Game Recorder

Encoding:

AVI - MS-MPEG4 V2

AVI - DIVX

AVI - MJPEG

AVI - LJPEG

AVI - Huffyuv

AVI - 1420

AVI - DIB (fastest, no audio)

WMV - MS-MPEG4 V3 (streamed)

I actually use AVI - MS-MPEG4 V2 (the best quality) and 10 secs = 1 mb

By the way, I've made 6 carma 2 compilations:

Carmageddon: Pure Fuckness

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8eOBty3oo04

Carmageddon - Hardcore Punk

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M7CFWttKrmU

Carmageddon - A.N.I.M.A.L.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pAC6CRRRXzc

Carmageddon - Alive

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mPf9VaHVNmM

Carmageddon - Pumpkinhead

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ij7ZiDrPCk

Carmageddon the 6th

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rVjJqlvun1E

please rate and comment...

see ya...

Well here is mine a whole day early (unless you're on the otherside of the world). I didnt bother with top 5 stunts as that is just not my "schtick" really, so just top 5 kills/crashes and I did a little 45sec intro with it to make the video a bit longer. Im overall happy with the ped kills but I think I coulda had some better crashes, but hey if nothings happening when you're playing not much you can do about it! I used c2s stock video recorder and windows movie maker to put it together, pretty much in the last 2 days.

Those are cool. They look good for the ingame recorder, mine always looked pretty crap.

Unfortunately, I will not be home from vacation until later today, so will probably miss the deadline.

Since we have not seen any other entries, maybe we can extend it a day or two??
