Thanks to Parovoz and stygimoloch we should now have all the tracks working.

I packed the 2 fixes togheter and you can download the game here.

///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

After hours of trying and failing to make a working meld pack for win7, the power of google helped me. I found this Meld Pack on Tosh's ftp:

Download / Mirror

It works like a charm, with no additional programs like dosbox or dgVoodoo.

Well, almost like a charm, if you happen to get some funny looking colors(kind of like the drug power-up) all you have to do is to kill the ''explorer'' process and you're good to go, or you can make a .bat file:

taskkill /f /im explorer.exe

Start /w carma95.exe -hires

start Explorer.exe

After you close carma, explorer will then start automatically!

Haha! Nice find ;)

There are still some bugs in the thing but I can't remember what exactly.

These last couple of years I was working on a C1+SP+addons pack called Gourmet Carmageddon, it was very promising but I lost the whole thing by mistake.

Don't forget you can use D3D-Windower to emulate Carma95 in modern systems or even try this new tool: http://www.carmageddon.com/forum/topic/337

By the way, I doubt every W7 x64 user will get to work but if it can help...

Ok, I nearly shat myself when this started working.

My current solution for getting Carmageddon running on Windows 7 was a VMware virtual machine with a Windows 95 installation - which took several hours of highly frustrating trial and error to get working.

It took me all of thirty seconds to get the version linked to in Lenor's post up and running. And that includes the download time.

So yeah. Looks like I'll be playing Carmageddon for the next fourteen hours. Huzzah!

Whoops! Sorry mate - my monitor's native resolution is 1680 x 1050 so it looked fine at my end.

I've taken it down to a slightly less obnoxious 437 x 300. :D

Glad to see it worked for you too. Do you have x64 or x86(32)?

Thanks Lenor, all of this glide wrapper stuff is confusing though. I have nGlide installed, also Glidos. Now my question is, in relation to the version of Carmageddon in this thread, do I need to apply the 3dfx patch to it then run through Glidos or what? I've so many versions of this game, patches and stuff I'm getting lost in it all haha. Cheers mate

I'm really glad myself with Hires mode, 3DFX mode isn't at all better then that anyway, so why break your skull for it? Urizen, my screen is 1920x1080 resolution and the image you got now, for forums, is still too high, cut it half man! That's about normal! :)

I'm running on x86, been playing for about thirty minutes or so - no glitches or crashes! Superb frame rates too, which is probably a huge relief for people who'd been using DOSbox up until now. I could never squeeze out any more than about 10 fps in DOSbox, even with all the detail settings turned right down!

I'll be sure to pass on my thanks to Tosh!

I had -highres as an argument. what is the difference?

also changing filter to linear makes it a bit smoother.

I'm at a more normal 1024x768 now.

Agreed, back then you needed a dedicated video card to be able to run it in hires. I had problems running it even in standard resolution(on a 486 computer).

Just curious, anybody experiencing crashes when attempting to start races on some random tracks? Happening for me on Splat Track & Drown in the Sumps. Still hugely enjoying this though, thanks again!

It also randomly switched from running full screen earlier to letterboxed with black borders around it now... no idea why, only runs that way now

The random crashes happened to me with every single version of carmageddon I've tried. The letterbox thing didn't happen to me so far.

Ah! These are the bugs I was talking about. The pack misses peds ressources for both of these environments.

Some cars crashes the game when you hit them too (well maybe).

Looks like the file is gone from the ftp, I'll upload it somewhere else. It will take some time cause I'm having trouble with my ISP this morning.

If someone else wants to upload it, let me know.

Tosh, if you have anything against this leave a message

When I click on the CARMA95.exe it has a black screen then goes back to desktop and gives this error:

" Unable to setup DirectDraw - please check that DirectX is installed "

Also I dont know what the SNDSETUP.exe file is meant to do, but it wont run either, just says "not compatible with the version of windows that you are running...."

I tried running both as admin and in compatibility mode and with 256colours. etc Is there something else I can do? I've tried dosbox before and could never get it to work. No way will I ever bother trying it again.

Also the readme say's:

"

Unpack this archive and then either run:

- Carma.exe (DOS Version)

- Carmav.exe (3D FX Version)

- Carma95.exe (Win95 version)

- Voodo2C.exe (Voodoo2 Version)

"

But the only exe I see is the main one with the red carma icon. I must be missing something.

Win 7 64bit.

Q6600,8800GTX,4GBram(not that this matters) Any help would be swell.

I think that means you don't have ddraw.dll in the directory.

Got it working by using the .bat file idea from the other "how to get carmageddon working" thread.

Just saved a notepad file as carma95.bta (I dont think the name matters) with the following in it.

Quote:

taskkill /f /IM explorer.exe

Start /w CARMA95.exe -hires

pause

start explorer.exe

There are alot of sound bugs, like sounds not playing when they should or just not kicking in faster enough, like engine sounds not changeing for a few seconds, butat least I can play it after all these years. Woot woot.

EDIT: Although when I go to quit, the game freezs and cannot be alttabbed or ctrl+alt+delted out of and the computer has to be reset.

Toshiba-3 stated at the top of the readme that he deleted carmav.exe, voodo2c.exe, etc.

Launch Carma95.exe with -hires parameter to get it working, with ddraw.dll too, otherwise it will crash or give you bad colors.

BTW, I'm JeReMiZ from the readme and previous pack. (hi tosh'!)

Hifi, yours .dll are magic! Keep up the good work!
