Joyous Pad

Post by Evil Blarg »

My new keyboard doesn't allow me to press three keys at once.

Well, ofcourse I could, but it'll only accept the functions of two and with my way of stumbling through levels with Carma I use about three at once, at some points.

So I went and got a joypad.

A Piranha Xtreme USB something or other. It cost me about jackshit, so...

I got it working with TDR, but whenever the pad's plugged in, Carma2 won't start up and that's just what I'm back into now and kinda the reason I bought the damn thing.

Anyone know if this is only logical, or do I need to change a 1 to a zero somewhere? What? Why won't anything just work? Why can't I just go and play a sweet little game and sit and smile idiotically?

:supermad:

No wait, scratch that last one, I got that one down.

Thanx folks.

I guess I'll just go and wallow in self-pity.

And hammer on CTRL-ALT-DEL.

You made the joke up there, but it does make me wonder.

Why the fork can I not use three keys in Carma while I can in Windows... And why the funk does one keyboard allow it and another doesn't.

Blech, gimme consoles anyday.

"Hold on... I'll go check."

...

Nope.

I usually buy cheap shit, like this and the option I get with it are rather limited.

Calibration, Effects and another tab which also doesn't do anything usefull.

>>why does one keyboard allow three keys at once and the other doent?

that's hardware issue

:help:if you press a key, the microcontroller in your keyboard translates it to binary code for your pc.

old IBM keybords had controllers in them that dindt care how much keys you pressed, but nowadays everything must be cheaper, so; less advanced controllers -> less keys. :suicide:

is annoying, but try to find an old IBM board.

Right-o sir. I got a file caled:

glidewrapper078b

I haven't got time to install it yet, but at least I got it.

That's done it, thanx.

Edited in: While I'm at it, how do I get the screen back that you get when you start up Carma2. The one that let's you select between the brilliant Linedraw deal and Direct-something or other. I once checked the "don't ask me again" box without realising I might need it again.

In this upcoming case, I guess.

Well, i got it, it works, but....

My steering wheel only works with it if i tell it to treat it as a d-pad, and then its all digital so if i turn a tiny bit it fully turns so its just like a keybaord, thus pointless.

Anybody know any solutions? Would making the pedals seperate instead of combined axis fix it? I'll go try and see.

Ok, that fixed it.

On a slightly off note, it seems to be giving me error reports and quitting about 1 minute into gameplay. Anyone know anything to do? Too many cars maybe?

Hmmmm...3DFX Glide is giving me a gay error:

Brender error detected

Failure: Unable to allocate Main Front Screen

Any ideas are welcome...although its probably my graphics card.

Holy crap, this actually works. I can finally play Carma 2 with a gamepad!!! WOOHOO !!

Most everything seems to work fine for me, except that I can only move the mouse cursor around in the upper-left 1/4 of the screen. That means that I can't hit the "buy" button in the "purchase car" screen. I can't figure out a way to highlight the button with the keyboard or gamepad either. This sucks because I can only use the default Eagle.

At least I can finally play with a gamepad. Hella big props to zeckensack.

Solution: Set your desktop resolution to 640 x 480. If you cant do 640, do 800, it still lets you do all the buttons.

Ok, I found out what the problem was. If I set resolution to "try high res" in the glide wrapper configurator, then I can move the mouse correctly. Also, this runs the game at a resolution of 1280 x 960. Kick ass.

I used zeckensack's Glide wrapper, the one mentioned in n3wton's post.

My eyes almost fell out too. The resolution gets quadrupled from 640x480 to 1280x960 when I select "try high res". I even switched it back and forth a few times for comparison just to make sure I wasn't seeing things.
